I have remixed this new shorter version to 03:43 for broadcast and streaming platforms, Here is the new mix, taking the best of the 6 minute plus original recording and creating a new arrangement of this classic tune from the 70's. RIP Timmy Thomas and Larry Minne. This one is for both of you.</p>

I have quite a few new tunes recorded so now the work begins choosing the music and preparing them for delivery and publication which is quite a bit different from releasing a song on Spotify or YouTube, but I will be doing both throughout the upcoming months ahead. My music has been placed in the new documentary film "<a href="https://jodiwille.com/films" target="_blank">Welcome Space Brothers</a>" directed by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jodi_Wille">Jodi Wille</a>. The film recently screened at the Los Angeles Theatre on November 15, 2023. Special thanks to my A&R rep Douglas Mcgowan at NUMERO and Jodi Wille for this opportunity. I look forward to seeing this 1 hour 41 minute feature documentary about Ruth Norman, leader of the Unarius Academy of Science. I have 2 new volumes of music coming in 2024, so I hope to continue receiving more film and TV placements in the new year !!!</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw1CaNAYWV4N1E3OO5IVSxnF4yhcWbWwGCwv5RpNBf_4DMFSBNbQFrus7AKYDUa6DvEc40pBwsEqf9VqmmpjZDJeNTWNuBnolhOTYfyujwpHmhRi2iKh5G0MHOo4-jitG3SWdCDlv0Qpon7VWRCnqUIcheaC-nIQLLca4zMin6jbUL4gCyzwHNwWBXYd1E/s1994/401054610_10227803692052137_7110728827803370615_n.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1865" data-original-width="1994" height="374" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw1CaNAYWV4N1E3OO5IVSxnF4yhcWbWwGCwv5RpNBf_4DMFSBNbQFrus7AKYDUa6DvEc40pBwsEqf9VqmmpjZDJeNTWNuBnolhOTYfyujwpHmhRi2iKh5G0MHOo4-jitG3SWdCDlv0Qpon7VWRCnqUIcheaC-nIQLLca4zMin6jbUL4gCyzwHNwWBXYd1E/w400-h374/401054610_10227803692052137_7110728827803370615_n.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Photo by David Normal<br /><br /></td></tr></tbody></table><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-jC8C1ahoEC9WGgdqLcR_nwswfgMAifaum3Zux9ychliB5iFEKIqYD2VqyGuE8TJ0SQT6FQkmC8Kgb6emmaVAjETpl6281oRl4Vqkj3KtBWuzh8VGkyys4S-EwRf_4GFbjD9N2Gxttmjp55FfdAd5a-h1X8rTkGhHihCGZmm61VreNE6In_u-VTah8r0M/s789/la.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="789" data-original-width="526" height="611" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-jC8C1ahoEC9WGgdqLcR_nwswfgMAifaum3Zux9ychliB5iFEKIqYD2VqyGuE8TJ0SQT6FQkmC8Kgb6emmaVAjETpl6281oRl4Vqkj3KtBWuzh8VGkyys4S-EwRf_4GFbjD9N2Gxttmjp55FfdAd5a-h1X8rTkGhHihCGZmm61VreNE6In_u-VTah8r0M/w406-h611/la.jpg" width="406" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Photo by Amy Darling</td></tr></tbody></table>Read the reviews here.<p><a href="https://deadline.com/video/welcome-space-brothers-unarians-documentary-clip-debut/" target="_blank">Matthew Carey for Deadline</a>:<br /></p><p><a href="https://artillerymag.com/film-welcome-space-brothers/" target="_blank"> Doug Harvey for Artillery Magazine</a>:<br /></p><p><br /></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8001748523526074271.post-31475753968401471302023-12-02T23:16:00.002-06:002023-12-03T23:46:00.563-06:00New Releases for 2024<blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;"><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;"><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;"><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;"><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;"><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;"><h1 style="text-align: left;"> Coming Soon !! </h1></blockquote></blockquote></blockquote></blockquote></blockquote></blockquote><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM0Tq2TQ9l-qnjbUp3xMpW-xZRUDKlXPcIRhinPStZkRbEpoYIONL40lV69bzn8KFsQ7Ts6r9FfyijGkMWEetvScd7-xKZ0nSlBeqHA4sD5MlDvOav8PZaemfhMck_7W3EKCT96No7tnZphQsb6h8mG8HcM05sXTFZvjOIF4vAsOQemTqXy7m4nLyA3m26/s1400/playlist%202024.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1400" data-original-width="1400" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM0Tq2TQ9l-qnjbUp3xMpW-xZRUDKlXPcIRhinPStZkRbEpoYIONL40lV69bzn8KFsQ7Ts6r9FfyijGkMWEetvScd7-xKZ0nSlBeqHA4sD5MlDvOav8PZaemfhMck_7W3EKCT96No7tnZphQsb6h8mG8HcM05sXTFZvjOIF4vAsOQemTqXy7m4nLyA3m26/w640-h640/playlist%202024.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><h1 style="text-align: left;"></h1><h4 style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large; font-weight: normal;">I have been hard at work this year writing and recording 2 new volumes of tunes for my music library. This is one of my more exploratory concept albums and begins with the mysterious sounds from the Crystal Chamber, a 12 minute improvisation inspired by my research into the Atlantean mythology.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span face="Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif" style="background-color: #222222; color: #dd7700; font-size: 19.8px; font-style: italic;">The story behind the Crytal Chamber began in 1983 when I traveled to Mexico to explore the pyramids of Teotihuacán……I was always interested in the stories about the lost civilization of Atlantis as well as the history of ancient civilizations. I had read the book “Chariots of the Gods” by Erich Von Daniken in the early 70’s and was quite fascinated with his theories. The journey to Mexico was an exciting experience, exploring the pyramids of the sun and moon, and the walk of the dead. I was deeply moved by the sheer scale of these structures, being able to climb them and look out over the countryside, imagining what it might have looked like in the days of the Mayans and Aztecs or even earlier. After returning to the states, I spent the next several years researching additional sources of the Atlantis legend, and from this came the idea to create a musical journey into the ancient civilization of Atlantis.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span face="Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif" style="background-color: #222222; color: #dd7700; font-size: 19.8px; font-style: italic;">After several years of toying with the idea, I finally began an effort to start writing the music in 1986. I originally planned to record just one album, but my research took me into so many different directions I decided to start the first one and see where all this would lead me. In addition, I wanted to approach this music from an improvisational standpoint. I had some ideas about hidden “crystal power”, déjà vu, past life memories, UFO’s etc., so it was a matter of turning those ideas into sounds that would capture the story of an ancient civilization. The way it has always worked for me was to get an image in my head and the music would follow. The first Atlantis track was recorded very quickly. The “doo dah, doo wah” melody from Crystal Chamber floated in my mind and I spent most of the time creating soundscapes and searching for the perfect blend of sounds to capture the ideas in my head. Mixing all this together was actually the “real” album; this was a new approach for me, since I had always written everything out into music charts with arrangements. I was able to break the bounds of creative consciousness and let the sound, stories and ideas flow through me. The result turned out to be my first, very successful solo album “Atlantis Crystal Chamber”, which delved into the culture of the Atlantean civilization, the powers of crystals, hidden knowledge of the past, telepathy, telekinesis and time travel. As it turned out, I was writing my story and the soundtrack at the same time.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span face="Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif" style="background-color: #222222; color: #dd7700; font-size: 19.8px; font-style: italic;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVk77OMq08QzChuRSRjNdqGaZxMf7Hq-cnU5xX5gAPuQs5K8-fuijhBLDoDkRRjdLxj6aQSoWc1TLAsuznfV8klIAX8ZM8PYB1u0rx7edHNjXyAky_7BAsOBh9tdWMRYGBAcEugRUre7PbreqEtR_aC2gMAy4fDAvawWfGJG6kl92aMBBMI2ffRFj2qw/s640/crystal-bw04.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="425" data-original-width="640" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVk77OMq08QzChuRSRjNdqGaZxMf7Hq-cnU5xX5gAPuQs5K8-fuijhBLDoDkRRjdLxj6aQSoWc1TLAsuznfV8klIAX8ZM8PYB1u0rx7edHNjXyAky_7BAsOBh9tdWMRYGBAcEugRUre7PbreqEtR_aC2gMAy4fDAvawWfGJG6kl92aMBBMI2ffRFj2qw/w640-h426/crystal-bw04.jpg" width="640" /></a></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: #222222; color: #dd7700; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 19.8px; font-style: italic;"><span style="background-color: transparent;">Album Notes: </span><b><span style="font-family: Papyrus;">Crystal Chamber</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: #222222; color: #dd7700; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 19.8px; font-style: italic;">A labyrinth deep inside the Earth where select crystals and other natural resources were placed to generate the terrestrial power needed by the Atlanteans. This is 6th and final release for 2022 featuring some funky grooves along with some Pat Methany inspired guitar, exotic percission, bass and flute. This piece is actually 3 seperate movements starting with the theme and chorus, followed by a cinematic flowing bridge and finishing with some soulful inspirational guitar riffing over the closing jazzy chordal structure. A dark and melodious tune, this has always been one of my favorites.</div>

In this exploration I started with a steel drum and moog bass randomly arpeggiating to the chord structure, while adding the percussion. I let it go from there and each verse passage I changed the melody using different instrumentation to finally arrive at this arrangement. A very exotic and exciting groove with hints of tribal and world music throughout. Hope you like it !!!</div>

As some of you know, I don’t usually record cover tunes and focus mainly on instrumental compositions in various genres, but I felt a need to send out this message to the world with this recording. If we could ask ourselves the same query, I hoped this might be a step in the right direction. </p><p>I had a scratch track created in 2020 and was going to record the whole thing myself, but then the pandemic shut down that idea, so I started working on different arrangements with different instruments. By 2021 I had a working track that I liked so I reached out to my Detroit pals, Larry Minne and Charles “Buddy” Smith, and said let’s do another record. I wanted to record 2 versions of this track, a vocal on the A side and an instrumental version on the B side. As fate would have it, I had some health issues over the year, so the recording was postponed until I could get up to Detroit in September ‘21 for a one-day session. I had sent up the working track earlier to these guys to listen to. I brought all my recording gear and setup..... so on recording day I had Larry on harmonica, while Buddy arrived with a special guest, Audra Kubat, another fine Detroit singer/songwriter...... I was planning on a 3-4 minute tune without any solos, just the lyrics.......so I rolled the track and then we started improvising and trying different combinations of voices and harmonica, I just kept all the tracks we did record and I added some additional vocals that could be used in the mix. I had an idea for an ethereal opening that would set the tone for the tune and grab the listener, so I asked Audra and Larry to just play off each other without using lyrics, imagining standing on a mesa overlooking giant canyons, with the voice and harmonica floating in space, Buddy pulled off a masterful vocal, and I just let the track roll at the end and let Buddy and Audra improvise an incredible scat. So we made it up as we went, and that is how I like to work to catch the spontaneity of the moment. I had a lot of material to take home and listen to, edit and put it into a song format that would work. I finished with a song that was something different than I had imagined and much, much more interesting ....... I hope you enjoy this 6 minute opus, we all worked on this recording to spread the message...... we have to learn to live together........RS</p>

<div><span style="text-align: left;">It's good to be back recording with Bray Ghiglia. He is a gifted multi-instrumentalist and film composer and we have worked on many projects going back to the release of my "Drive" album in 1990. I plan on releasing several singles this year and hope to get these on the airwaves and to all media outlets. Here are the tracks that will be released over all digital platforms on 2/1/2022. Please support your local musicians !! </span></div><p></p>

Was I being naive? Looking back, probably so, but I still have that passion for world peace and I am a very empathic person, so it troubles me thinking about the condition of the world today, 30 years after this tragedy, not forgetting the Kennedy's, King and all the others who fought for human rights and equality. So today I focus on recording music with that message.</p><p>The first line was;</p><p>"The paper said, the man was dead, do we need gun control?</p><p>Victim of circumstance, never really had a chance,</p><p>The times the way they are, you can't push your luck, can't push your luck too far."<span> </span></p><p>I did not get a chance to record this with the band, but I included this version on my first solo album "Mystic Memories" in 1983. It has been re-released on the <a href="https://numerogroup.com/products/robert-slapp-mystic-memories">NUMERO GROUP</a> label. They will be reissuing all my recordings from that era ('83-'95) over the next several years.</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8001748523526074271.post-2939527611306695522021-05-08T13:22:00.026-05:002021-05-09T11:46:37.709-05:00"NUMERO 95" Released on Digital and Vinyl LP 03.05.2021<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #f4cccc;">As e</span><span style="color: #fff2cc;">scapism from corporate banality turned the corner in the ‘90s, a new generation of vibrant, software generated soundscapes emerged. Originally released in 1990, it did not get much airplay, however, several cuts did do well on network TV with spots on the Leeza Gibbons show and Playboy TV network. Thanks to the <a href="http://www.numerogroup.com/" target="_blank">NUMERO GROUP</a> Record Label, this music is again available to a whole new generation of listeners and available for download and streaming.<br />

This week's reading...... as some of you may have guessed, I don't watch much TV at all, but I try to read a couple of books a week.... these 2 books are a historical recollections that occur during World War II.... The "Nightingale" deals with the French resistance in Paris and "Beneath a Scarlet Sky" deals with the same subject in Milan, Italy...... one through the eyes of a young women, and the other with a young man........ It is interesting to note what these people suffered and sacrificed through this period of Fascist rule in Europe....... what our country is dealing with today is nothing in comparison to what this generation endured, yet I find many parallels to events unfolding in our country and the world. It gives me a better understanding how citizens can be coerced and brainwashed to do unimaginable things for their leaders. Those who know the history of the War, have heard of the Vichy-French government turning on its own people, as well the Mussolini fascist army that failed in North Africa, only to be brought back to Italy to be replaced by the Nazi's....... The point is that the people in these countries believed their governments and were tricked into submission by fear and repression of the free press........ yet through the horror, there were some who resisted and sought to put themselves above the politics and false information to fight for restoration and a return to normality....... a righteous path for those with the courage to see that they were in this together and that they would not survive without the bond of compassion and action. "Logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.” ...... Yes I remember that quite clearly from the '60's......... but how far have we fallen from those aspirational goals???? and can we as a nation ever meet today's challenges as those of the "Greatest Generation" did in their time ??? We owe a lot to them for the opportunities we had growing up in the post war era. Change begins within and it may take one person at a time to realize we all live on this planet together...... or not at all.... rs 05.17.2020

I have just signed with the <a href="http://www.numerogroup.com/" target="_blank">Numero Group</a> to release a retrospective collection of my original music from the period 1986-1996. The 5 music albums are all instrumental tracks and range from jazz/fusion, soundtracks to meditative new age.<br />
<br />
A little background about the Numero Group:<br />
<br />
In the growing noise of the so-called reissue field, The Numero Group remains distinct in its quality: deeply researched, expertly resuscitated and lavishly packaged box sets, playlists and ephemera of historic music from the 1950s-1990s. Founded in Chicago in 2003 by Rob Sevier and Ken Shipley, for more than 15 years Numero has committed to unearthing precious lost sounds for new audiences, with an unparalleled ear for potential and spirited eye for detail.<br />
<br />
I am very thankful to be working with this group dedicated to preserving and presenting various forms of rare and eclectic music that did not fall into mainstream/pop commercial categories.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Released in 1986, this music was inspired from my travels to Teotihuacan to visit the pyramids of the sun and moon while walking the avenue of the dead. A very introspective and intimate musical journey. This was my first attempt to improvise an entire album and I was very surprised how it turned out.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5 years later in 1991 I released my second collection of Atlantis themed music. This was based upon the ancient healing power of music, meditation and self actualization. It also contains some very nuanced tonality as my musical palette expanded over the years.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I originally created this as the soundtrack for Valley of the Sun's Video hypnosis series. It was then released on CD in 1989 as an extended 60 minute version for meditation, yoga, healing and prayer. I was trying to create a spiritual, uplifting sound that would captivate the listener and draw them up into the realm of higher consciousness. This has been very popular with therapists, hospitals, churches, massage and yoga centers.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Collaborating with my dear friend Steve Powell, this collection is an upbeat, driving set of tunes that draw upon jazz, rock, world, and fusion. Also featured on this recording is Bray Ghiglia on flute and Dominic Buscemi on guitar. Released in 1990, it did not do well with the fans of my previous "New Age" style releases. However, it did do well on TV with spots on the Leeza Gibbons show and Playboy TV network. This was the transition period where I was moving into film scoring and serious composing and away from new age and pop music.</div>

<br />
I wrote most of this music in 1993 for the ITV video documentary about Takemusu Aiki, who founded the martial arts technique of Aikido. I loved delving into the sounds of oriental and eastern music for this, blending with more modern arrangements. I then compiled this into an album format and released this as my last album for Valley of the Sun in 1995. Featured on this recording is Bray Ghiglia on sax and flute.<br />
